Starling to roll out new spending categories

Starling is set to roll out 36 new spending categories in its mobile app.

With the cost-of-living crisis in mind, the bank wants to make it easier than ever for its customers to have ‘total visibility’ of their finances and track their spending more effectively.

New categories will include ‘garden’, ‘takeaway’, and ‘bucket list’ following consultation with Starling customers.

Categories can also be creatively labelled – marking a given payment as ‘treat’, ‘non-essential’, or ‘hobby’ for example.

The Spending tab within the Starling app also breaks down the spend percentage per month within each category customers decide to use.
