Bahrain-headquartered Bank ABC's mobile-only subsidiary ila Bank has successfully migrated its retail account and lending operations onto a new core banking platform.
The migration is expected to provide ila Bank with the speed, agility, and scalability to grow its customer base and launch new products and services at a faster pace.
The cloud-native, API-first architecture also enables "rapid" integration of new capabilities and Open Banking services.
The move marks the completion of the first phase of Bank ABC's wider core banking transformation programme, which will involve bank consolidating multiple back-end systems from across 15 countries onto the banking platform.
The platform, from Temenos, is hosted on Amazon Web Services.
Ismail Mokhtar, group chief operating officer at Bank ABC said that the go-live marks a "significant milestone" in its strategic transformation as the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region's "international bank of the future."
"This achievement strengthens the bank’s ability to accelerate digital innovation and respond even more swiftly to customers’ needs," continued Mokhtar. "It also provides a robust foundation for Bank ABC’s broader transformation as we continue to drive efficiency and enhance our international operations.”
Launched in 2019, ila Bank is a multi-award-winning mobile-only bank that pledges to deliver "innovative and personalised banking experiences" whilst driving financial inclusion across Bahrain and the wider region.
"At ila Bank, we offer a distinctive digital banking experience that empowers customers with innovative solutions designed to enrich their lifestyle and meet their evolving financial needs," said Mohamed Al Maraj, group chief retail & digital banking officer and chief executive of ila Bank.
He went on to say that the migration enhances the bank's ability to launch new products faster, "scale with confidence," and continue "redefining" consumer banking in the MENA region.
