Starling launches mobile cheque depositing

Starling Bank has a launched a mobile cheque depositing feature on its banking app.

The digital cheque tool will allow business and individual customers to scan a cheque with their smartphone across iOS and Android devices. The app uses device cameras to capture an image of the cheque and 'read' the details to pay the money into an account.

The tool, which is the first digital cheque service offered by a digital challenger bank, will be available to UK personal, joint, sole trader or limited company business accounts from today.

It works for all cheques of up to £500. Customers will still have the option to use a free postal service to process any cheque or cheques over £500 by posting their cheques for free.

Anne Boden, chief executive and founder of Starling Bank, said: “There is no better time to launch mobile cheque imaging than now as it enables customers to do even more from their smartphone, at home - and with thousands of cheques deposited with us every month we know that this will help our customers.”
