Santander UK has appointed an interim chief information officer (CIO) and a new director of IT operations and service delivery as part of a shake up of its technology leadership team.
The Spanish banking group said that Graham Calder, a former Group CIO at Ladbrokes Coral Group and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for Pearson PLC will take up the role on interim CIO.
Calder will be tasked with leading the delivery and development of Santander UK’s technology strategy and IT transformation plan, supporting the bank’s aim to become “a digital bank with a human touch.”
Daryl Brookes will move into the role of director of IT operations and service delivery. Brookes joins from Metro Bank where was interim Cloud CIO and director of IT operations and service delivery.
Santander says that Brookes brings over three decades of experience in senior IT roles, including positions at Nationwide where he led technology operations and service management for over five years, and before that at Barclays, Lloyds Banking Group and Zurich.
Carlos Selonke, Santander UK’s current chief information technology officer, has been appointed to a new role as head of core banking migration.
Santander said he will lead the vital strategic programme of work to migrate and modernise Santander UK’s core banking systems and decommission legacy systems.
Calder and Brookes will both report to Iain Plunkett, chief operating officer, as part of his redesigned Technology, Transformation and Operations division.
Tony Prestedge, deputy chief executive officer at Santander UK, said: “I am very pleased to welcome Graham and Daryl to the team as we continue to execute our digital transformation.
"Both bring a wealth of expertise and experience in delivering major technology change programmes, which will be invaluable as we deliver on our ambitious plans over the coming years."
