Robinhood appoints ex-Google exec as chief product officer

US-based brokerage Robinhood has appointed ex-Google executive Aparna Chennapragada as its first chief product officer.

The brokerage, which currently boasts 13 million users, said Chennapragada will oversee product, design and research.

Robinhood has been a frequent fixture in the news during 2020 as result of its prominent part in the GameStop trading scandal.

Chennapragada previously spent 12 years in leadership roles at Google, where she led product, engineering and design teams, across Google Search, Google Shopping and AR.

She was most recently vice president for consumer shopping, and the lead for AR and visual search products.

“Robinhood has built a uniquely accessible product that has opened up the financial markets to millions of people,” said Chennapragada. “I spent my career at Google building products that help billions of people in their everyday lives.”

She added: “So I couldn’t be more excited to join Robinhood and help more people build their financial future and personal wealth.”

“When I met Aparna, I was immediately struck by her passion for our product and delivering exceptional value to our customers,” said Vlad Tenev, chief executive and co-founder of Robinhood. “The vision for what Robinhood could do for the world became even clearer. I look forward to learning from Aparna as we build delightful product experiences and work towards democratizing finance for all.”
