Revolut moves towards permanent flexible working

Revolut has confirmed a move towards permanent flexible working for its 2,000 employees, supported by a "Rev Lab" strategy to repurpose all its offices into collaborative spaces, which will have around 70 per cent of space devoted to collaboration and teamwork.

The FinTech said this move will enable the vast majority of its workforce to choose when and how often they work from the office.

The announcement claimed 98 per cent of Revolut's employees said they adapted well to remote working, that 90 per cent of team leaders said performance was unaffected, but that 65 per cent of employees said that they wanted the freedom to come to the office when they wanted

92 per cent of employees found that their individual productivity had not changed while working remotely according to the same survey, while 80 per cent of employees felt that team collaboration had not changed, and 96 per cent of employees considered team performance not to be negatively impacted.

Revolut said the new Rev Labs format will cater for its rapid headcount growth, while providing spaces for creative thinking, brainstorming, training, and knowledge exchange. There will also be quiet zones and space for external meetings.

In 2021, Revolut plans to open Rev Labs in locations where it has never had a physical presence before while current offices are gradually repurposed.

The FinTech’s entire workforce has worked exclusively from home since late March 2020, and has launched in three major markets - USA, Australia and Japan – while launching Junior accounts and commodities trading capabilities.

The announcement concludes with claims that it's cloud-based systems have allowed the business to continue as usual, and that for 86 per cent of its employees, not commuting is the main advantage of working from home, while 60 per cent reported a better work life balance.

“Our people have told us that they really love the better balance they’ve achieved by working from home,” said Jim MacDougall, vice president of people at Revolut. “But they said they missed colleagues and the chance to collaborate face to face on key projects and to balance the convenience of home with the camaraderie of the office.”

“Rev Labs offers everyone the best of both worlds. Revolut is a fun, exciting place to work and we want Rev Labs to preserve that energy."

He added: "We’ll be completing the flexible working policy over the coming months, to be attractive to our current colleagues and the hundreds who will be joining us as we grow around the world.”
