Pleo adds Google Pay to business spending app

Business spending solution Pleo has added Google Pay functionality for its 13,000-plus European and UK customers.

Pleo’s users will benefit from Google’s contactless payment method for business purchases, the encryption of important payment information that is then stored on secure servers and virtual account numbers to protect sensitive user data and card details.

The co-branded service will be rolled out to customers across Pleo’s six markets of operation in the UK, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Ireland and Spain.

“Coming just a few months after Pleo’s integration of Apple Pay, customers will now have even more flexibility when it comes to contactless business payment methods - with Google and Android users able to sync their Pleo card to their preferred devices,” said Pleo.

Direct integration with the Pleo app will mean managers and team leaders will also have real-time transparency of business spending.

Niccolo Perrera, Pleo co-founder and CTO, said: “Following on from our Apple Pay announcement the integration of Google Pay means that the Pleo service can be used seamlessly by up to 90 per cent of our customers.

“This is a huge step forward and marks another milestone in the movement towards Pleo becoming a fully-digitised business spending solution.”

In May 2019, Pleo closed a $56m Series B funding round led by New York-based growth fund Stripes. The company has strategic and technical partnerships with Mastercard, JP Morgan and Danske Bank.
