Payments firm Shieldpay has announced the appointment of WorldPay founder Nick Ogden and former Citi chief executive Jim Cowles to the company’s board.
The two will serve as non-executive directors with immediate effect as Shieldpay, a London-based FinTech founded in 2016, looks to accelerate the growth of its digital payments service for high value transactions.
Ogden, regarded as a FinTech pioneer, founded payments processing company WorldPay in 1989 (then Streamline), before it sold to FIS in July in a deal worth $35 million.
Ogden is currently founder and director of ClearBank as well as a non-executive director for business financing firm Funding Options.
Cowles joins the board after a 30 year career in banking and financial services, most recently as a chief executive (EMEA) of Citi.
He had recently stepped down from his role at Citi and will take up the non-exec role at Shieldpay as well as running The Venn Media, a company he set up earlier this year.
Ogden said: “I’ve been following Shieldpay’s development closely over the last couple of years, from its partnership with Visa to the strides it has made in the mortgage market. It’s an incredibly exciting time to join the team with some highly innovative initiatives on the horizon. Driving the business forward will be a key focus of mine as we enter the next phase of growth.”
