Klarna CTO joins Dutch FinTech Mollie

Klarna’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Koen Köppen has joined Dutch FinTech Mollie.

Köppen worked at the Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) giant for 11 years, and was appointed to the CTO role in 2017.

The news comes as Mollie is attracting significant levels of investment to fuel its expansion.

In June 2021, the Amsterdam-based payment service provider raised $800 million in a Series C funding round.

In his new role, Köppen will have responsibility for the reliability, scalability, and development of Mollie’s technology platforms, as well as for helping its customers build commercial infrastructure.

Köppen has served as a member of the Mollie Supervisory Board and Audit/Risk Committee since in January 2020 but stepped down from both positions in March 2022.

“We’re excited to welcome Koen and his wealth of experience to the Mollie management team,” said Mollie chief executive Shane Happach. “This was a unique opportunity for Mollie to secure an experienced leader with deep expertise in the financial ecosystem. Koen has led large teams through many of the modern-day, complex challenges and he is the perfect person to help continue to scale our business.”
