CaixaBank has introduced Apple’s Tap to Pay on iPhone, enabling businesses in Spain to accept in-person payments seamlessly and securely using only an iPhone, with no additional hardware or payment terminal required.
The bank claims it is the first financial institution in Spain to offer this functionality, allowing business customers to operate entirely via iPhone.
Using the service, merchants can accept contactless card payments and mobile wallets—including Apple Pay and other digital wallets—through the Smartphone TPV app. At checkout, the merchant simply prompts the customer to hold their contactless payment method near the iPhone, and the transaction is completed securely via NFC technology.
CaixaBank stated that the service leverages built-in security and privacy features, with Apple neither storing card numbers nor retaining transaction data on its servers.
The bank highlighted that the technology is ideal for businesses requiring mobility and flexibility, such as professionals providing on-site services, restaurants, and delivery-based retailers.
Through Comercia Global Payments, a subsidiary of CaixaBank, the company manages more than 805,000 point-of-sale terminals in stores, holding a 30.5 per cent market share.
