Goldman Sachs to create 100s of tech jobs with new Birmingham office

Goldman Sachs is expanding its UK footprint with a new office in Birmingham, which is expected to generate hundreds of new technology roles.

The bank said that the West Midlands site would provide access to a strong talent pool of academic institutions, a growing tech sector, and leadership in STEM industries.

Engineering will be the first division set up in Birmingham, with a mix of both new hires and employee transfers.

Other areas of the firm will branch out into the city over time. The bank predicts there will be a headcount of several hundreds across a number of divisions.

The new office will begin to recruit people in the third quarter of this year.

The bank said that the Birmingham office will help it build on the successful expansion of other strategic locations and tech hubs in Europe, including Warsaw and Stockholm.

“Establishing a new office in Birmingham will diversify our UK footprint and give us access to a broad and deep talent pool in the local area,” said Richard Gnodde, chief executive officer for Goldman Sachs International. “We see tremendous opportunity to enhance our UK presence and continue delivering for our global clients.”
