Ex-Santander asset management CEO hired by Motive Partners

Mariano Belinky, previously chief executive of Banco Santander’s asset management division, has joined FinTech focused private equity firm Motive Partners.

Belinky will be based in London and will help the New York-based private equity firm buy and invest in FinTech firms.

As part of his role as Industry Partner, Belinky will focus on areas that bring “strategic value” to Motive Partners' investment mandate.

Founded in 2016, the firm’s portfolio includes trading solution Trumid, investment management platform InvestCloud, and virtual insurance agent Insurify.

The news comes after private equity firm Apollo Global Management, also based in New York, said it would buy a 24.9 per cent stake in Motive in July.
.
Belinky has a degree in Computer Science and Philosophy from NYU and conducted doctoral studies in artificial intelligence at Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya.

Belinky co-founded and lead InnoVentures, Santander Group’s $400 million FinTech focused global venture capital fund.

The executive was also previously a junior partner with McKinsey and Company and was also part of the research technology team at investment management company Bridgewater Associates.

"We believe technology has the ability to unlock huge value for investment firms,” said Rob Heyvaert, founder and managing partner at Motive Partners. “All aspects will evolve, from how we invest to how we interact with our portfolio companies and clients.

“Through Motive Create and Mariano's appointment, we are seeking to extend our edge, as we 'weaponise' financial technology ideas to empower our operations and our portfolio companies by embedding these new financial capabilities to transform operations and gain scale.”

He added: “Mariano's depth of expertise as an investor, operator, and innovator across major financial technology areas are extremely well suited to Motive and the journey we have ahead in achieving our vision on behalf of our investors.”
