Savings FinTech Chip has hired a former Ocado and Amazon development manager as chief technology officer (CTO).
Tom Evans joins Chip from 10X Banking, the cloud native banking platform founded by Antony Jenkins, former chief executive of Barclays.
Evans brings over 24 years of experience in software development and engineering. Prior to moving into the FinTech space, he led engineering teams at Ocado and Amazon.
Chip said that as CTO Evans will lead product and engineering teams with the aim of building and delivering new features for the automated savings app, including the upcoming Investments Platform and wealth-building innovations including ChipX, scheduled for launch in spring this year.
Both the engineering and the product teams, headed up by Tom, will play an integral role in bringing these features to customers.
The FinTech has tripled its team in the past year after seeing its user base double.
The app automatically puts money aside for customers, using AI to decide how much a user can afford to save, before sending a notification with the option to cancel or approve the saving, which is then stored in an e-wallet.
Evans said: “I’m very excited to join Chip. They are building an amazing app that is delivering real benefits to our customers. I’m really looking forward to scaling and shaping the product and engineering teams to meet the challenge of building great new features for our growing user base, while focusing on the highest standards of quality and reliability.
“Chip has a great future ahead as it enables its customers to continue to build savings, and I’m thrilled to be a part of that journey."
