BBVA partners Google Cloud for security infrastructure

BBVA is partnering with Google Cloud to support its new banking security strategy.

The Spanish bank said the deal would make it the first in Europe to deploy Chronicle, Google’s Cloud security analytics platform that allows teams to store and analyse all their security data in one place to detect and investigate threats at scale.

The move, which is part of a business-wide strategy to improve security infrastructure, will see Google Cloud collaborate with BBVA teams to develop AI and machine learning models and a new security platform to predict and prevent cyber attacks against its banking infrastructure.

BBVA has collaborated with Google Cloud to digitally transform its operations since 2011, and is currently using Google Workspace to promote a safer, and more agile collaborative way of working among its employees.

The bank said these tools allow for global collaboration, without putting the information and documentation generated at risk.

Álvaro Garrido, chief security officer, at BBVA said: “This partnership represents a leap forward for the bank, and allows us to be at the forefront in preventing threats to the security of our financial infrastructure and our clients.”

“The platform surprised us in its ability to quickly and accurately mitigate possible threats. Google Cloud’s Chronicle meets our expectations and will be a magnificent partner in the transformation of our security posture, just as Google Cloud has been in other areas of the bank."
