CaixaBank rolls out pay by instalments using Apple Pay

CaixaBank has launched a service to allow customers to split payments for online and in-app purchases.

The service is available with an eligible Visa or Mastercard credit card while using Apple Pay.
CaixaBank says it is the first bank in Spain to offer the service.

When checking out with Apple Pay online or in-app using iPhone and iPad, users will be able to select their eligible credit card, and then tap Pay Later to view their available instalment plans.

Users can then select the plan of their choice, which ranges from two to 12 months depending on their credit card conditions.

CaixaBank said the service underlines its commitment to both innovation and new customer trends.

The bank has in recent years taken part in a number of payments projects, including the creation of the first wearable that could be used to make payments.

It was also the first bank in Spain to commit to NFC mobile payments.

Since 2022, the bank has offered Buy Now, Pay Later options through its mobile app, which customers can select whenever they want, before or after the purchase is completed.

In June, CaixaBank launched Tap To Pay on iPhone, which enables businesses in Spain to accept in-person payments using only an iPhone, with no additional hardware or payment terminal required.

The bank also says it is the first financial institution in Spain to offer this functionality, allowing business customers to operate entirely via iPhone.

The bank currently serves 20.5 million customers and has the largest network of branches and ATMs in Spain.
