Citigroup has promoted David Griffiths from chief technology officer to group head of AI.
Announcing the appointment on LinkedIn, the bank’s chief operating officer Anand Selva said the move would bring clearer focus to the company’s AI strategy by unifying the bank’s end-to-end AI operating model across businesses and technology.
Griffiths has spent over 13 years working at Citi and held a number of senior positions during that time, including group head of engineering and architecture. Prior to joining Citi, Griffiths worked at Bank of America Merrill Lynch for over five years.
In his new role, Griffiths will join the chief operating office leadership team. He will work with Tim Ryan, head of technology and business enablement, to ensure tight integration between AI innovation and Citi’s technology strategy.
Commenting on his time as chief technology officer, Griffiths said that the firm has built a company-wide AI platform with leading frontier labs, rewired core operational processes, and embedded AI into Citi’s businesses.
In his new role, Grifiths said he wanted to go “further, faster and with even greater scale” to ensure that everyone receives the benefits of AI.
“As chief technology officer, David has played a critical role in modernising our technology and scaling AI capabilities, making him uniquely positioned to lead in this next chapter” Selva wrote. “Congratulations to David on this well-deserved appointment. Excited for what’s ahead as we continue to build responsible, scalable AI capabilities across Citi.”
