Barclays hires James Edmonds as sustainable finance head

Barclays has announced the appointment of James Edmonds as its new global head of sustainable project finance.

Having previously served as head of real assets finance for the Americas at HSBC, Edmonds will be based in New York and report directly to Travis Barnes and Tom Johnson, global co-heads of capital markets.

In the new role, Edmonds will be responsible for providing project financing solutions for clients as they look to both decarbonise their operations and monetise the associated substantial revenue opportunities on a global basis, Barclays said.

“James will deepen our existing expertise in areas such as offshore wind and help us further develop our project finance advice and product capabilities for clients as they look to decarbonise their businesses,” commented Travis Barnes.

Edmonds will also work closely with Barclays’ existing sustainable finance teams to “enhance capabilities” in providing integrated and innovative debt and equity solutions.

Daniel Hanna, global head of sustainable finance at Barclays, stated that Edmonds was an “exceptional hire” who will support its ambition to facilitate $1 trillion of sustainable and transition finance by 2030.
