Starling bank doubles Cardiff headcount

Starling bank has doubled headcount at its office in Cardiff as the challenger bank continues its growth strategy.

Employee numbers stand at 868 in the Welsh capital city, a 117 per cent increase from 2020.

The new jobs span a range of roles across the bank’s divisions, from customer service and data science to financial crime and engineering.

Anne Boden, founder and chief executive of Starling Bank, said: “Cardiff is a dynamic and entrepreneurial city with a rich talent pool. Our office here is important to our growth as we benefit directly from the capital’s outstanding universities and fintech expertise.”

Starling now has 1,854 employees across its four offices in Cardiff, London, Southampton and Dublin, with Cardiff its biggest base.

“We’ll keep creating new roles in the region as we continue our mission to change banking for good. We’re always on the lookout for keen technologists and customer experience agents and hire based on attitude and aptitude,” Susanna Yallop, chief people officer at Starling Bank, said.

In step with its rising headcount, Starling has remained on a strong growth trajectory since its inception in May 2017.

The number of Starling accounts opened increased 37 per cent between April 2021-2022 having now reached three million with the biggest customer increases from Wales, Yorkshire, and Scotland
