Portuguese bank BPI launches VR bank branch

BPI, the Portuguese bank, has announced a partnership with Unity Technologies, the videogame developer, to launch a virtual reality (VR) bank branch.

BPI said it will deploy Meta’s Oculus virtual reality headsets in more than 100 of its branches across Portugal.

The headsets will enable customers to access BPI VR, reportedly one of the world’s first VR bank branches.

Users can walk around the two-floor store of BPI VR, to learn about and interact with the bank's offerings.

Francisco Barbeira, executive board member, BPI, said: "BPI VR concept store is our first step in the metaverse space and demonstrates our focus on innovative omnichannel customer experiences.”

He continued: “We believe that the way people live with digital platforms will be much more immersive in the future, and we want to pioneer a new way of interacting with our customers, who are at the heart of our business.”
