Newcastle Building Society launches internal benefits platform

Newcastle Building Society has rolled out a new benefits platform for its employees.

The platform, built by Zest, enables the building society’s staff to view all of their benefits in one place and is designed to encourage them to review these on a regular basis.

Newcastle Building Society is the largest of its kind in the region, with 31 branches across the North East, Cumbria, and North Yorkshire.

The new platform will also let employees select benefits that are relevant to their own personal situation.

Since its launch, more than 11 per cent of the building society's staff have increased their pension contributions with an average of four per cent of salary.

As well as rolling out the new platform, Newcastle Building Society has launched several new benefits including a new Colleague Mortgage benefit – which provides colleagues with a competitive mortgage provided through the building society.

Over five per cent of staff have already signed up to this benefit over the past six months.

“The new platform has allowed us to make it clear and simple to colleagues what their Reward package is, through features such as our total reward statements,” said Ben Thomas head of reward, Newcastle Building Society. "The platform has also made it simple for colleagues to make changes and take control of their benefits.

"Features such as ‘single sign on' direct into the platform and direct integrations with other services, including our Colleague Recognition portal, have made it really easy for colleagues to access the information they need quickly and easily.”

In January, Newcastle Building Society announced a pilot collaboration with OneBanx to provide a multi-bank kiosk in two of its branches in a bid to “keep cash alive”.

The building society will install kiosks from OneBanx in branches in the North East and North Yorkshire, stating that the move will offer an “innovative blueprint” for cashless communities.

The kiosks use Open Banking technology and allow small businesses and personal customers of any bank in the Open Banking network to withdraw and deposit cash from their accounts.
