BoE FinTech leader joins Fireblocks

Bank of England (BoE) FinTech leader Varun Paul is set to join US cryptocurrency firm Fireblocks.

Paul was previously Head of the Fintech Hub at the central bank.

The executive has spent over 13 years in different roles at the BoE, where he initially started as a UK trade economist, including senior manager, future of finance and head projects and FinTech, financial stability.

Fireblocks provides infrastructure solutions that aim to secure and speed up the transfer of digital assets such as Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Paul’s role at the company was not specified.

Fireblocks has been active in terms of hiring senior public sector staff.

The firm appointed former US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) chair Jay Clayton to its advisory board in August.

“16 years after starting my first internship and more than 13 years after starting as a graduate, today I’ve parted ways with the Bank of England,” wrote Paul in LinkedIn post. “I have loved my time here - because of the great people and the varied and incredibly rewarding work.”

He added: “And because I’ve been given the space to drive forward the agenda on the things, I’m passionate about.”
