BBVA to attract tech talent with new job portal

Spanish bank BBVA has announced plans to launch a new job portal to help attract around 2,600 tech experts in 2023.

The bank said it expects that 1,000 of the new hires will be based in Spain, while the remaining 1,600 will be international roles.

BBVA explained that of the total amount foreseen for the year, 1,200 have already joined the bank so far, with 500 hires based in Spain.

The plans come as it becomes increasingly challenging for financial institutions to recruit technological talent, including engineers, physicists, mathematicians, and experts in AI and data management.

“In light of the challenge of recruiting and incorporating tech talent, BBVA has created a new job portal with the aim of not only being able to show available positions, but also to demonstrate to people with these technological backgrounds all the opportunities the bank offers STEM talent,” said the bank.

In the new online portal, the bank's employees specialising in engineering and data will explain first-hand the opportunities that their current job provides, including "learning, international mobility, use of the latest technologies, professional development and flexibility".

The portal will also provide information on the technological projects that BBVA carries out in the fields of development and architecture, security and infrastructure, as well as in the data field.

The bank said that the profiles it needs most for its engineering area are software developers and data engineers, followed by experts in security, infrastructure and architecture, while on the data side it needs specialists in data science and AI.

“We have segmented value propositions that are allowing us to provide our candidates what they expect to find in large companies like ours," said Pedro J. Méndez, global head of talent and culture in the engineering, BBVA. "We offer a long career path, with a flexible work model, a training programme at the highest level and a strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, and the physical and mental well-being of our professionals."

He added: "We also know that there are aspects that are important specifically for tech talent, such as participating in challenging projects or working with the latest technologies."
