Starling Bank appoints Joe Gordon as COO

Starling Bank has appointed Joe Gordon as chief operating officer subject to regulatory approval.

Gordon will join the bank next week from energy company OVO, where he worked for almost four years.

In his role as chief operating officer, he supported a team of 7,500 and was involved in the business’ digital transformation.

Prior to this, he was the chief executive of First Direct, and has held leadership roles across retail, finance and telecoms at firms including BT, Sainsbury’s and HSBC.

“Operational and technological excellence are fundamental to delighting customers and Starling’s future success,” said Raman Bhatia, Starling’s group chief executive. “Welcoming Joe and Steve to their new roles, with all their relevant experience, will ensure these are at the forefront of everything we do.”

Earlier this month, Starling Bank announced it had appointed Raghu Narula as chief banking officer to strengthen its leadership and banking capabilities. Narula will join the firm in February 2025 from the NatWest Group where he worked for two years as managing director, customer engagement and distribution.
