European payments group Mollie has agreed to acquire bank payment company GoCardless.
With the move, Mollie will integrate GoCardless products into the Mollie platform, creating a single provider that integrates card payments, local methods and bank payments into a single solution, serving over 350,000 businesses.
Founded in 2004, Mollie powers online and in-person payments, reconciliation, fraud prevention, and flexible financing across more than 30 European markets and the UK.
GoCardless is a global bank payment company currently counting over 100,000 clients, from start-ups to household names. The firm processes over $130 billion worth of payments annually, across more than 30 countries.
Mollie said the acquisition will most benefit businesses that are expanding internationally or developing recurring revenue models which face the “persistent challenge of a fragmented payment infrastructure”.
The new company will enable large enterprises to choose to consolidate their European payments system, while SMEs will have access to powerful, enterprise-grade tools without complexity, said the business.
Additionally, SaaS platforms and vertical software providers using Mollie Connect, a payment solution for platforms including SaaS or Marketplaces, will be able to choose to integrate GoCardless' bank payment network directly into their products, enabling their customers to accept both card and bank payments through a single integrated solution.
The new business will also offer local onboarding and integrations with local business software, reporting formats and local payment methods, for example, iDEAL in the Netherlands, Satispay in Italy and Twint in Switzerland.
Koen Köppen, chief executive of Mollie, said that the move is part of the company's mission to simplify money management and eliminate financial bureaucracy for businesses.
“By bringing them into Mollie, we take a huge step towards fulfilling our vision and creating one complete platform for sustainable growth,” Köppen said.
Hiroki Takeuchi, co-founder and chief executive of GoCardless, added that the deal brings together two highly complementary companies that have delivered outstanding products in Europe and beyond.
“By combining our expertise in card, bank and hyperlocal payments into one provider, we can better serve our customers, accelerate growth and raise the bar for the industry,” Takeuchi said.
The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals, and is expected to be finalised mid 2026.
