Revolut appoints former Deutsche Bank exec as UK CEO

Revolut has announced the appointment of Francesca Carlesi as UK chief executive.

She joins from Molo, the UK’s first fully digital mortgage lender, where she was founder and chief executive.

Carlesi previously worked at Deutsche Bank as chief of staff and global head of regulatory affairs and has held senior roles at Barclays and McKinsey & Co.

“Revolut is the future of digital banking," said Carlesi. "With nearly eight million customers in the UK and a diversified product offering, the company is at the forefront of change in financial services.

"There are so many growth opportunities and I couldn’t be more excited to be leading the way for the UK. We have big things planned, so watch this space.”

Last month the UK challenger bank announced it had reached a milestone of 35 million customers globally.

The company said that the figure was up from 30 million in June, and that the number of customers in Europe using Revolut as their primary account has grown by 90 per cent in the past year.

It was recently reported that Revolut has plans to simplify its ownership structure with investor SoftBank in a move understood to be part of efforts to obtain a long-delayed UK banking licence.

Those familiar with the matter told the Financial Times that Revolut and Softbank had been locked in negotiations for months, with the Japanese investor pushing for compensation for giving up its priority class of shares.
