PayPal is creating 100 new data science jobs at its Dublin headquarters.
The company said the initiative forms part of its commitment to investing in data science and AI capabilities, as well as broadening its Irish operations,.
The new AI team in Dublin will serve as a key reference point in PayPal's global network, working closely with the company's other global innovation centres.
The new roles will encompass a range of positions and capabilities, including AI engineering, data science, software development, risk modelling and cybersecurity.
The hiring initiative is supported by the Irish government through IDE Ireland, the country’s investment promotion and development agency.
Aaron J. Webster, global head of risk management at PayPal, said the expansion of the team reflects the company's ambition to build a secure, AI-powered future for payments.
“We are proud to deepen our commitment to Ireland and to invest in highly skilled roles that will help shape the future of PayPal globally,” he added.
Peter Burke, Ireland’s minister for enterprise, trade and employment called the move “a strong vote of confidence in Ireland” which reinforces the country’s status as a global hub for innovation.
Commenting on the initiative, Michael Lohan, chief executive of IDA Ireland, said: “This is a testament to Ireland’s enduring appeal as a location for high-value investments. We are proud to support this growth and look forward to the continued success of PayPal in Ireland.’’
Last month, PayPal partnered with Mastercard to provide shoppers with multiple payment options at checkout.
Unveiled earlier this year, Mastercard's One Credential enables customers to use a single credential when shopping online or in-store whilst tailoring their payment preferences.
PayPal is now collaborating with Mastercard to develop new features utilising this technology, offering more customers a range of personalised payment options through a single card.
