CaixaBank ‘first’ Spanish FSI to launch mobile contactless payments

CaixaBank has said that it is the first financial institution in Spain to launch an app that lets mobiles be used as point-of-sale (POS) devices.

The bank's platform for businesses allows contactless payments to be managed through Android devices without the need of an additional device.

The app is designed to provide similar functionalities to a traditional POS terminal, including the option to send receipts to customers via email or QR code.

The new app, which is compatible with both Visa and MasterCard, also lets companies view the history of transactions and details of each one in teal time.

Merchants can download the 'Smartphone TPV' app onto their mobile phone, which is now available on the Google Play Store.

The move comes after Australian bank Westpac introduced Apple's Tap to Pay on iPhone for contactless payments.

The Australian bank said the move would give business customers an “easy and secure” payment option to accept in-person contactless payments via its EFTPOS Air iOS app.

At checkout, merchants can prompt the customer to hold their contactless payment near the merchant’s iPhone, and the payment will be completed using NFC technology.
