Zapp, the m-payments venture set up by VocaLink, has poached Ian Sayers from Barclays. He will take up the position of chief technology officer from October.
Peter Keenan has been appointed as chief executive officer. He has been managing director of the Currys and Dixons businesses in UK/Ireland and head of both the UK and Global Propositions function for HSBC. While Justin Basini joins as chief marketing & product officer. Basini has spent the last three years building an internet start up in consumer data and prior to that was CMO at Capital One.
Sayers has worked at Barclays for the past 12 years and led the design of several innovations such as PingIt and BuyIt. David Yates, founder and chairman, Zapp, comments: “I am delighted to be able to announce the leadership of Peter, Justin and Ian. Peter combines a 15 year retail career with first hand retail banking experience which I believe will be very potent in the success of Zapp. Justin brings deep marketing and product knowledge and recent experience of startups. Ian has a wealth of experience of challenging the status quo, building new mobile and web technologies and delivering bank scale implementations. The opportunity to create a new payments ecosystem comes along once in a generation. The team we have assembled has all the right experience and expertise to win in the market and deliver Zapp to millions of UK consumers, the financial institutions they trust and the retailers they spend money with.”
