Starling Bank appoints Raman Bhatia as group chief executive

Starling Bank has announced the appointment of Raman Bhatia as its new chief executive.

Bhatia is currently chief executive of UK energy supplier OVO.

He was previously head of digital bank for HSBC’s retail banking and wealth management business in the UK and Europe.

Bhatia takes over from John Mountain, who has been interim chief exec since the bank's founder Anne Boden stepped down from the role last year.

At the time Boden, who remains on the board as a non-executive director, said that stepping down as chief executive would allow her to focus on her position as shareholder and ensure that the bank "sticks to its values".

Commenting on his appointment, Anne Boden, founder of Starling Bank, said: “I am pleased that in Raman we have found someone who can take Starling into its next phase of growth while cherishing the culture and values we have worked so hard to instil in everything we do.”
