Standard Chartered announces pair of regional appointments

British multinational bank Standard Chartered has announced the appointment of Vinay Gandhi as its global head of South Asian community and regional head of Africa, Middle East and Europe private banking.

The executive has spent the past two years overseeing the private banking business in Singapore, during which time it has experienced ‘robust growth’ the bank said.

In his new role, Gandhi will be responsible for an increased mandate across the South Asia and Africa, Middle East and Europe regions. His new title will come into effect from 1 January, 2024.

The bank has also announced the appointment of veteran banker Foo Tian Ong as its regional head of Southeast Asia, and Singapore head for the private banking business.

The former UBS managing director joins after more than 23 years with the Swiss bank according to his LinkedIn profile, where he served as business sector head for wealth management in Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

His career spans back to the early 1980s, and he has worked for organisations including BNP Paribas, CIBC and Merrill Lynch.
