NatWest payments arm partners with JD Wetherspoon

Payit by NatWest has announced a new partnership with pub operator JD Wetherspoon.

The service, first launched in 2020, enables customers to make instant online payments to participating retailers, without the use of a debit or credit card.

Payit uses an Open Banking infrastructure to let customers of UK banks pay for products and services offered by retailers who use the service, which is targeted at mid to large corporate companies.

The partnership will provide JD Wetherspoon's customers with a new way to pay for food and drinks via its app.

Customers using the platform will be able to complete in-app pay orders without the need to input card details or use personal information sign up for an account.

There are currently 24 banks connected to NatWest's Open Banking service, including the nine largest banks serving the UK and Ireland: AIB Group; Bank of Ireland; Barclays Bank; Danske Bank; HSBC Group; Lloyds Banking Group; Nationwide Building Society; Royal Bank of Scotland; and Santander.

“This new partnership with one of the UK’s most recognisable brands is an exciting move for Payit by NatWest," said Mark Brant, NatWest group chief payments officer. "It’s one that allows us to provide a company with an extensive consumer base a way to reduce the cost of taking payments."
