Lloyds Bank hires former HSBC exec as head of agentic AI

Lloyds Banking Group has announced the appointment of Aritra Chakravarty as head of agentic AI.

Taking up the role on 2 June, Chakravarty will lead the development of agentic AI capabilities across the banking group, leading on autonomous, goal-driven systems designed to enhance decision-making, operational agility, and customer experience across the group.

He joins the firm from digital transformation company Jiffy.ai, where he has worked since April 2024 as chief product and technology officer driving generative AI (genAI) and large language model (LLM) powered automation.

Prior to this, he spent 12 years working at HSBC in a variety of roles including as global head of digital FX and investment products, wealth management, where he led the transformation of the bank’s digital FX and investment platforms.

Chakravarty also founded Project Imagine in 2017, an FCA-regulated FinTech which provides cloud-based banking services and a financial wellbeing app.

Chakravarty will report to Rohit Dhawan, who joined Lloyds last year as head of AI and advanced analytics.
