Global Payments to sell payroll business in $1.1bn deal

Payment technology and software solutions provider Global Payments is divesting its payroll business to Acrisure in a deal valued at $1.1 billion.

Headquartered in Michigan, Acrisure is a FinTech that provides insurance, reinsurance, and other financial services. The company offers a wide range of products and services, including personal and business insurance, life insurance, payroll, cybersecurity, and employee benefits.

Global Payments said the move will reinforce the company’s position as a pure-play commerce solutions provider for merchants of all sizes and boost operations.

"This transaction further sharpens our strategic focus and allows us to amplify investment in the markets and solutions where we are most differentiated, while also positioning the payroll business to benefit from greater scale and investment moving forward,” said Global Payments chief executive Cameron Brady.

The Payroll business divesture represents the latest in a series of transactions designed to simplify the business, including the sale of  cloud-based, software-as-a-Service (SaaS) AdvancedMD to Francisco Partners in December 2024 for approximately $1.1 billion, six years after Global Payments acquired it for $700 million.

In April, the firm also announced the acquisition of payment tech firm Worldpay from FIS and GTCR in a deal valued at $24.25 billion, while simultaneously divesting its Issuer Solutions business for $13.5 billion.

Proceeds from the company’s latest deal will be used to return capital to shareholders with Global Payments maintaining leverage neutrality, the firm said.

The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2025, pending regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.

Global Payments and Acrisure have also agreed to a mutual referral and long-term commercial partnership that will see Global Payments continue offering integrated human capital management and payroll services to its merchant clients as part of its suite of commerce enablement solutions.

Headquartered in Georgia, Global Payments serves customers in over 100 countries with a workforce of 27,000 employees across 38 countries.
