Alipay has announced the launch of an AI agent payment service on Luckin Coffee’s app and mini-programmes.
Luckin Coffee is a retail coffee company that prides itself on a technology-driven retail model, with its app enabling users to order ahead, pay orders, and receive vouchers.
With the new service, users of the app will now be able to order and pay via voice commands to AI agents.
It marks the first time that the Chinese digital payments platform has integrated ordering and payments within AI agents.
As part of its announcement, the company also revealed that Alipay Tap!, its QR code-based contactless payment tool, has grown its user base to 200 million since its launch in China in June 2024.
The milestone comes several months after surpassing 100 million users in April 2025.
Alipay currently connects over one billion consumers to more than 80 million merchants in China.
The launch of Alipay's agentic payment service comes as Mastercard announces that Citi and US Bank Mastercard cardholders will be early adopters of Mastercard’s Agent Pay, a payment service that allows AI agents to initiate and complete transactions on behalf of users.
Mastercard recently revealed plans to work with Microsoft and other leading AI platforms to begin a landmark programme that will integrate commerce with agentic AI.
All Mastercard cardholders in the US will be able to access Agent Pay by the Christmas season, with the programme launching globally shortly thereafter.
The launch is part of a campaign that will see the payment giant introduce new tools and partnerships to promote agentic commerce and AI-based payments, as it seeks to lay the groundwork for reliable standards in agentic transactions.
