Adyen appoints new CTO as FinTech reports market gains

Dutch payment company Adyen has announced the appointment of Tom Adams as chief technology officer, succeeding Alexander Matthey, who will conclude his tenure later this year.

Adams will join Adyen from Cash App where he served as head of engineering for four years.

In his new role as technology chief, Adams will oversee the strategic and technological development of Adyen’s single platform which encompasses payments, data and financial products.

“With Tom’s experience in building and leading a global engineering organiszation, as well as driving product innovation at scale, we look forward to his contributions as we advance the benefits of our single platform,” said co-founder and co-chief executive of Adyen Pieter van der Does.

“As the financial services industry continues to digitalise, and as we see shopper expectations continue to evolve, there is immense opportunity to drive innovation in this space,” added Adams.

In the shareholders letter published earlier this month, the Amsterdam-headquartered FinTech recently reported net revenue growth increasing 24 per cent year-over-year for total revenue of €913.4m as of 30 June 2024, alongside Ebitda of €423.1m, up 32 per cent.

The firm also cited additional strides in global markets including Europe, the Middle East and Africa, North America and South America, and much of Asia, with new partnerships including Australia’s largest prestige beauty retailer MECCA and sport retailer Decathlon.
