Over 500 female employees at the National Bank of Australia (NAB) have signed up to course in cloud technology.
NAB is the first company in the world to adopt the She Builds CloudUP programme, which is run by Amazon Web Services (AWS) and designed to give to give foundational cloud skills to secure an AWS certification.
NAB’s chief information officer for personal banking & digital, Ana Cammaroto, said that there was a misconception that technical skills are difficult to obtain and this can prevent women from considering the industry.
Cammaroto added that many women are already equipped with the skills they require, but need encouragement to transfer them.
“According to the Tech Council of Australia, we need one million people working in tech by 2025, and part of the way we can get there is by boosting gender diversity and getting more women working in a traditionally male dominated industry,” said Cammaroto.
NAB said that women from all areas of the firm had signed up to further their technical skills including bankers and finance experts, with the course open to all NAB employees across the world.
