ATB Financial rolls out Google’s genAI chatbot to 5,000 employees

ATB Financial, the largest financial institution in Alberta, Canada has announced the rollout Google’s generative AI (genAI) chatbot Gemini across its 5,000-strong workforce.

The government-owned organisation currently serves 820,000 customers across its personal and business banking, wealth management, and capital markets businesses, with 267 branches in the Canadian province.

The company’s employees now have access to genAI which has been integrated in several tools, including Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and more.

The move comes after ATB completed a pilot with hundreds of employees who used the technology to draft marketing materials, analyse data, and summarise content.

"Our vision is to lead the industry in delivering exceptional client experiences," said John Tarnowski, chief client experience and technology officer at ATB Financial. "Providing our team members with the most innovative tools is key to achieving this."

Tarnowski said that the pilot scheme saw the organisation improve productivity and save time, with employees able to automate routine tasks, access information quickly, and collaborate more effectively.
