Samsung Pay closing on 100m transactions

Samsung has marked the one year anniversary of its mobile payment service Samsung Pay by announcing that almost 100 million unique transactions have been made in seven countries to date.

As well as credit and debit cards, users are able to add coupons and membership cards – with more than four million registered membership cards in the United States and South Korea. Samsung Pay also continues to add banking and merchant partners internationally, with over 440 bank issuers currently supporting the service.

In Korea specifically, Samsung Pay has processed almost $200 million in transactions, with more than a quarter of the transactions made online. Nearly 11 million cards related to value-added services, including membership, ATM and transit cards, have been registered.

Injong Rhee, chief technology officer and EVP of software and services at Samsung Electronics, commented: “Our ambition to reach a world without wallets continues to draw ever closer, and this strong consumer adoption signals a shift in behaviour and demonstrates the continued enthusiasm for a safer, smarter and better mobile wallet.”
