Sainsbury’s Bank in tie-up with Western Union

Western Union is to provide money transfer services at Sainsbury’s Bank travel outlets in 170 of the supermarket’s UK stores.

The Western Union consumer-to-consumer funds transfer facility will also be made available at any future Sainsbury’s Travel Money Bureau. The option will complement Sainsbury’s existing services, where customers can order foreign currency in person, online or over the phone, and collect it in-store or by home delivery.

Simon Taylor, head of travel money for Sainsbury’s Bank, explained: “Our new relationship with Western Union means we can address our customers’ needs to provide a reliable transfer of money overseas whilst delivering great service and the convenience of doing it while they are in-store doing their shopping.”

Massimiliano Alvisini, Western Union’s regional vice president for Northern Europe, said: “It has been our intention for some time to diversify our network in the UK and to work with top British retail brands to offer convenience for new and existing customers. This move underpins our diversification and innovation, making our trusted services available to new and time-poor consumers from ever more convenient locations.”
