England and Premier League footballer Ryan Bertrand has joined forces with two other entrepreneurs to launch a FinTech brokerage called Silicon Markets.
Based in the City it will offer opportunities to trade FX, indices and commodities. The founders say the company has the ability to “revolutionise the retail brokerage space” by offering free artificial intelligence and machine learning software to traders, helping them to make more informed decisions using new trading techniques.
Exact details of the project are set to be unveiled next month, but the group confirmed it would be “capitalising on Ryan Bertrand’s high profile” to market the company to fans, celebrities and sports stars, and to attract new traders to the market. The brokerage will initially focus on growing a strong UK client base before extending across Europe and Asia.
Southampton defender Bertrand – who has been investing in the financial markets since he was 18 – has embarked on the venture with fellow founders Louis Bell, an expert in institutional trading, and Matthew Kirkham, a financial technology specialist.
Bertrand said: “Silicon Markets has a revolutionary new business strategy based on ground-breaking technology and marketing via celebrities and sports stars. I am really excited about our potential to transform the retail trading industry, and am proud of the synergies we are developing between finance and football and how we are able to introduce the financial markets to an entirely new audience.”
