FinTech unicorn Revolut has launched Apple Pay for customers in the UK and 15 other countries.
The contactless mobile payment method, which enables customers to pay in-app, online and on Apple devices, will now be available to Revolut customers in the UK, France, Poland, Germany, Czech Republic, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Ireland, Belgium, Austria, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland.
The development will mean users can upload the details of their Revolut card into their Apple Pay wallet or Revolut app to use on enabled devices including iPhone, Apple Watch and MacBook.
Revolut customers without a plastic card can add a virtual card to Apple Wallet in a few taps from the Revolut app and start spending instantly.
When a Revolut debit card is registered with Apple Pay, the card numbers are not stored on the device, nor on Apple servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted and securely stored in the Secure Element on the device. Each transaction is then authorised with a one-time unique dynamic security code.
Arthur Johanet, product owner for card payments at Revolut, said: “Our customers have been requesting Apple Pay for a long time, so we are delighted to kick off our rollout, starting with our customers in 16 markets.”
