Holiday 2012 is the time when mobile really hit the mainstream in the US, according to PayPal. The company has yet to release the exact figures but says it registered its biggest ever mobile shopping day on Sunday, beating the previous record set on Cyber Monday a week earlier.
Writing on the company's blog, Anuj Nayar, senior director, communications, says: "Our data is undeniable. This past Sunday, 2 December, PayPal’s global mobile payment volume hit an all time high for a single day. We had not announced it but the previous all time high was Cyber Monday 2012 just six days earlier. Last Sunday exceeded Cyber Monday by more than one million dollars and we expect that trend to continue throughout the holiday season."
"Just as significantly, eBay Marketplaces enjoyed its biggest mobile shopping day on Sunday, 2 Dec. eBay sold more than two million items via its mobile apps from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday, but it also saw its mobile transacted volume more than double from the same period last year. Mobile is big and only getting bigger."
