PayPal steps up bricks and mortar pace

Twenty three large US retailers are now able to accept payment by PayPal in-store.

These include Famous Footwear, RadioShack, Spartan Stores, Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle Outfitters, Barnes & Noble, Foot Locker, the Home Depot, JC Penney, Office Depot and Toys “R” Us.

Writing on the company blog, Don Kingsborough, VP, retail services, PayPal, says: "In May 2012 we announced 16 large national retailers would enable their customers to pay with PayPal in-store. During that time we also made a commitment to sign-up a total of 20 large national retailers by the end of 2012. I’m happy to report that we exceeded that goal, and at the close of 2012 we had agreements with 23. The vision we started to lay out in 2012 is quickly becoming a reality, and when you now walk into 18,000 physical stores around the US, you see the PayPal name when checking out, making the reality of any time, anywhere payments come alive."

Kingsborough comments: "This is an exciting time at PayPal because our path to enabling people to pay with PayPal in the store has now gone from a vision to a reality. We are executing on our vision of cloud-based payments to enable true convenience across any channel from your laptop to your smartphone or the store. Some of the competition has stumbled with alternative technology offerings that don’t address true customer pain points – they have created technology, just for technology’s sake. We just want you to pay how you want; simple, fast and secure – with any method you want."
