Computing giant Microsoft has partnered with BitPay to start receiving Bitcoin payments for its digital services.
Consumers can now use the virtual currency to add credit to their Microsoft account and buy apps and games for Windows Phone, Xbox or Windows operating system.
There was no formal announcement of the move, but a page has been added to the company’s customer support section explaining how Bitcoins can be used to top up a Microsoft account. Currently, the service is only available to US customers.
This is the latest in a series of tie-ups for Bitpay, who have also been working with PayPal and SumUp to enable merchants to accept Bitcoin payments.
The value of Bitcoin has stabilised in recent months and is currently worth around $350 (£220) – down from a high of $1,000 (£630) in November 2013.
