KB targets Czech contactless payments

Komercni Banka (KB) is to introduce more than 6,000 contactless point of sale (PoS) devices in the Czech Republic for the first time.

The FI, part of the Société Générale Group, is partnering with Spire Payments on the six-month roll-out, who in turn is working with local payment solutions integrator SoNet. It will be the first mass deployment of open Linux-based, EMV and contactless capable terminals in the region. The devices will include mobile payment and personal key injection capabilities, as well as be payWave and PayPass certified. Additional functionality includes multi-currency cashback.

Zdenek Bubak, head of Central and Eastern Europe for Spire Payments, noted: “We are seeing an explosion of opportunity in the CEE region, especially for those acquirers faced with the challenge of replacing legacy terminal estates. KB is now in an extremely strong position as one approval cycle has resulted in an entire range of PoS solutions being available to its customers.”
