HSBC Merchant Services in PayPass 3.0 first

HSBC Merchant Services is the first merchant acquirer in the UK to offer MasterCard PayPass 3.0 payment processing to its customers. This supports payments made via contactless card, NFC capable mobile phones, stickers and wristbands.

The upgrade is available to all merchants using Ingenico iCT220 or iCT250 countertop terminals with P30CL PIN Pads. The terminals will accept payments made via cards, wristbands or stickers up to a limit of £20, but transactions over £20 can be made where the cardholder can authenticate the transaction by entering a PIN on the mobile phone handset and then tapping their handset on the terminal. Whilst a new feature is recovery for failed tap transactions.

Chris Davies, managing director, HSBC Merchant Services, comments: “With alternative payments on the rise in the UK, our customers are increasingly interested in how they can make the switch to accepting contactless card and mobile phone payments and, importantly, how they can make this as cost effective and easy as possible. Also, customers are aware of the demand to pay for higher value transactions via contactless technology as their customers become more accustomed to new forms of payment. MasterCard PayPass 3.0 functionality assures that customers are using the most innovative technology in the payments industry.”
