Developers turn out for FinAppsParty

More than 120 app developers took part in FinAppsParty over the weekend, a hackathon organised by Spanish FI CaixaBank and US firm Global Payments.

The 24-hour event, now in its fourth year, was designed to inspire the financial technologies of the future – specifically around this year’s theme of wearable devices.

The financial app programming marathon was for the first time held in two cities in two different countries simultaneously – Barcelona and Atlanta.

Participating teams were asked to design and create new financial service solutions for use with wearable technology, such as glasses, watches and wristbands.

A panel of judges comprised of digital banking and financial service experts at CaixaBank, Global Payments and Barcelona Digital Centro Tecnológico will select the best apps submitted in each city, with the Barcelona winners set to be announced on 11 November.

CaixaBank has run the FinAppsParty marathon since 2011, and the bank has launched several pioneering wearable tech initiatives this year, including the world’s first banking application for smartwatches, a branch locator for Google Glass and a new contactless payments wristband.
