Deutsche Bank has opened its data store for software developers to create and test digital solutions for bank clients.
The bank has created an application programming interface, dbAPI, providing access to its proprietary development environment.
The portal offers permanent access to a test environment, which will be gradually expanded to include additional functions.
At Deutsche Bank’s first hackathon in Berlin last weekend, 14 teams comprising of 70 participants from 22 countries were selected to take part in the bank’s programming competition and were given access to dpAPI for the first time.
The winning teams received prize money totalling €50,000 and were given the choice of exploring and collaborating with Deutsche Bank’s Digital Factory or presenting their ideas to the Axel Springer Plug&Play startup accelerator.
Kim Hammonds, member of the management board and group chief operating officer of Deutsche Bank, said: “The launch of our new developer portal for innovators and start-ups is a further milestone in the digitalisation of Deutsche Bank. It offers a huge advantage for creative developers and programmers: they can put their business ideas and apps to the test even while they are still developing them.”
