Co-op launches UK’s first car insurance chatbot

Co-op Insurance has unveiled the UK’s first ever car insurance chatbot, allowing Facebook Messenger users to receive a no-obligation quote in under 30 seconds.

The Co-op Insurance chatbot gives users a sneak peek into how much they can expect to pay for their car insurance, before completing the full quote on the Co-op website.

Rather than having to wade through endless questions, only to be met with unfavourable results, the chatbot provides users with a simple estimate quickly.

Visitors receive an instant car insurance estimate by taking to the Co-op Insurance Facebook page, where the bot can be accessed via Messenger. Users then need only click ‘Get Started’ and answer four simple questions relating to the insurer’s age, location, who will be driving the car and value of the vehicle to be insured.

The questions appear just like a normal online conversation, the only difference being that there are limited answers the user can provide. Once these questions have been answered, the chatbot provides a policy estimate based on data from existing car insurance customers.

If the user is happy with their estimate they are then asked to visit the Co-op website to see a full, accurate quote.

Charles Offord, director of distribution and marketing for Co-op Insurance, commented: “In order to keep up with changing consumer behaviours we cannot afford to shy away from digital innovation and creating the Co-op Insurance chatbot is one of the ways in which we’re hoping to do just that.

“The bot will be able to give people an estimate quote based on what we’ve provided like-minded people previously and customers are then free to progress to our site and purchase a policy. We’re thrilled to be trialling the Co-op Insurance chatbot, a first for the motor insurance industry and will continue to look at new ways in which we can innovate within the sector.”
