Braintree enables UnionPay payments

Braintree merchants across Europe will now be able to accept UnionPay payments through Braintree’s SDK. Merchants will be able to quickly integrate both UnionPay credit and debit cards into their checkout process.

Braintree hopes that the addition of UnionPay will help unlock access to this segment of consumers for merchants and remove friction in the checkout process without complex re-direction of pages.

According to research data from PayPal and IPSOS, China is the top export market for UK businesses, with an estimated 21.9 million online cross-border shoppers buying from the UK. Some 35 per cent of Chinese online consumers shopped cross-border in 2015, as international retail is expected to be worth around £28 billion to the UK by 2020.
